Old World Community Tournament in full swing

The Old World Community Tournament 2025 began on September 8th with an unprecedented 30 sign ups from players across the globe. Participation and excitement was high as the action kicked off right away with our first match scheduled the very next day; a marathon session between players Ninjaa And Auro. By the close of the first week of the tournament, 12 out of 14 round one matches had been scheduled and played with 5 being completed and 7 going into a follow-up session. Since that time, the majority of round one matches have concluded with a winner declared and round two is swiftly underway where we begin to see our first eliminations of the season. The community of Old World has come together as content creators across Twitch and YouTube work to provide live, streamed coverage of the tournament with over 30 videos uploaded to the YouTube playlist and many more to come as over 40 games remain to be played in this tournament before we find our champion!

The Format

Tournament games are played in a head to head format between two players on a Duel or Tiny map. A standard set of rules govern each match, but deviations may be included if players mutually agree when scheduling their games. The Mirror Map option is used to create an arena where the geography is the same on each side of the map, allowing equal opportunities for expansion as well as access to resources and strategic terrain for both players. Ultimately the goal of each match is overcome or outlast your opponent. Through a combination of strategic planning, tactical skill, efficient economic management, and luck, our players compete to determine who will be champion of network duels. The players are organized into a 30 person double elimination bracket where the winners advance and face off against the victors of previous rounds, and the defeated fight for survival in the elimination bracket where a second loss means exiting the tournament.

Tournament Highlights

A couple of recommended games to get you started.

ThePurpleBullMoose v. MongrelEyes – Close for Conquest – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yX-5WfKDkI

You’ve read his guides and seen his videos. Now, ThePurpleBullMoose makes his way into the duellists arena and what a debut it was. The map generation forced our players into tight conflict when the top half of the map got severed from the bottom by an errant coastline that bisected the map top to bottom, leaving only 6 city sites to contend over. Commanding the forces of Aksum with a Schemer on the throne, MongrelEyes expanded rapidly straight for the center of the map and secured a key strategic position for the Champions family. Bullmoose, in control of Greece, played a greedy development-focused strategy that left him open to early aggression. Who will prevail?

Ninjaa v. Auro – The Battle of Shiraz https://youtu.be/Eq3x7bxO1u4

The contest between Ninjaa (Greece) and Auro (Persia) started off with a strong lead for the Greeks when his Tactician ruler took a powerful Scholar wife as a bride, who quickly rose to the position of Grand Vizier, affording Ninja a seemingly insurmountable surge in science. Being outpaced in expansion from his rival, Persia executed a bold gambit by force marching a settler deep into the heart of the center of the map to steal a city site and deny it from his opponent. They settled the city of Shiraz there, which would become the centre of conflict for the rest of the game.
